After the school year ended and friends started to depart, we decided to go to our second annual Iftar Buffet as it is still Ramadan. We went to the Ritz Carlton by the Grand Mosque this year, and it was incredible. We all ate so much delicious food. Owen even said he was full!!!
After an eventful year in Abu Dhabi, we are ready to visit our home state of Colorado. We haven't been "home" in 18 months, so it'll be fun to see how much things have changed in that time. Before we get to Colorado though, we are going to spend a couple weeks exploring the United Kingdom! I am very excited to see London for the first time. We'll make it up to Scotland, but we've decided to save Ireland for another time. Hopefully we will have a jolly good time!
The end of the 2016 - 2017 school year has been a bit different than usual. With Ramadan starting next week, many of our usual end of the year celebrations had to be moved up a few weeks. Oddly enough, the staff party was before graduation this year.
After the staff party, Derek and I stayed the night on Saadiyat Island. Derek picked up the boys Friday morning, and we spend almost the entire day hanging out at the pool enjoying the beautiful Abu Dhabi sunshine. (Owen and I perhaps got a bit too much sunshine...) A day at a resort like that is enough to make you completely forget about grad school and getting all your exams ready to go...
Owen's big request this year was to be able to play on a competitive soccer team. This was a huge commitment, but we agreed. Owen excelled as a soccer player showing amazing improvement. Coach Colin commented that Owen was a great player and incredibly coachable. His teammates even voted Owen the Player's Player of the U8 team! Derek and I were pretty proud when Owen's name was called for that award... Almost as proud as Oliver was.
