A while back I posted about being nominated for a Cognita Excellence Award for Secondary Educators. Cognita is the company that owns our school as well as 65 other schools around the world. As part of the award, I was flown out to Singapore for the Awards Ceremony this past weekend. It was a lovely ceremony, and I had a wonderful time getting to know educators from all over the world.
Even though the award ceremony was only one night, I got to stay in Singapore for the entire weekend. I explored the city on my own on Thursday night, wandering all the way around the Marina and eating some delicious Turkish food somewhere along the way. I watched the Marina Bay Sands Hotel's light show and perused a few shops in the incredibly fancy malls in the area. It is amazing to me that Singapore is basically one giant mall--they are everywhere! And you can shop underground on your way from one mall to another.
On Friday night, a couple of my good friends flew down from HCMC to join me for a weekend of fun!
I had an absolutely wonderful time exploring Singapore with my friends--traveling with other adults is a completely different experience than traveling with young children! We did a lot of shopping and checked out some famous bars. One of the places we went to was the Raffles Hotel where Singapore Slings were originally concocted. We indulged and had a great time doing so!
One of the best spots we discovered was "Club Street" which is basically a Disneyland of bars. The street was closed to cars and motorbikes, and all of the restaurants put tables and chairs out into the streets. The buildings themselves looked like a movie set, and there were so many people!
We also checked out the sky bar on top of the Marina Bay Sands Hotel. The bar is on the 57th floor, which is on the "boat" part of the famous hotel. We had a few tasty cocktails and met some very interesting people way up there!
Of course, no trip to Singapore is complete without a visit to the beautiful Gardens by the Bay. I had a lovely time walking through the gardens, marveling at the stunning design. Such a cool concept!
I don't know when I'll make it back to Singapore again, but I am very glad I was able to visit a second time. It is a beautiful city with lots to do as a visitor--albeit very expensive. Singapore was a lovely last trip of the year for me. Next time I board a plane, I'll be on my way to Colorful Colorado!!! (With my family, of course!)
