At breakfast this morning, Owen had four helpings of hot cereal with dragon fruit, an apple, and then finished off Oliver's serving of cereal. I commented to Derek that he must be having another growth spurt. Derek then joked that we should tie a brick to his head because he is getting so tall so fast. Without missing a beat, Owen responded in a casual tone "You can't stop this."
Owen started Kindergarten today, and Oliver started preschool! It was a big morning in the Swanson house! There were some nerves (mostly mine) and lots of excitement! There's nothing quite like the beginning of a new school year to make you realize how fast kids grow up.
Oliver did way better at drop off than I anticipated. I think meeting his teacher and seeing the room on Saturday helped him a lot. He gave me a great big kiss, said goodbye, and hurried off to play. It was everything I could do not to cry.
If possible, Owen was even more excited to start school. He has a couple of great friends from last year in Kindergarten with him this year, and he was very happy to have time with them again. His number one goal this year? Learn how to read!
I love these boys, and I can't wait to see what they accomplish this year in EE2 and Kindergarten!
We took a short trip to Mui Ne, Vietnam. We went to Mui Ne at the same time last year. It's easy to get to (4 hour train ride) and has a decent beach. We left early on Tuesday morning and were at our hotel well before lunch time. We chose to stay at the Grace Boutique Resort this time as it had the option for a family room at a reasonable price and was located more in the main part of town. Last year, we stayed at the far end of the strip and found it obnoxiously far from everything though the beach was nicer. The Grace was clean enough, and had a great staff. There are only 15 rooms, so it was a more personal experience.
We had lunch at Ganesh which has become our favorite Indian place. After lunch, we went swimming! First the pool, then the ocean, then the pool again. The weather was beautiful, and the water was the perfect temperature.
The second day, our only full day, started off well enough, though a bit chilly. But the weather quickly turned cold and rainy. We spent most of the day in the hotel playing games and watching cartoons. When the rain would break, we went to the beach to collect seashells. Oliver spend forever arranging the shells on the drying rack outside our room. The boys wanted to swim so much, but it was just too cold! Check out their sad face picture...
Wednesday night we got to hang out with some of our friends at the Pogo Bar. Owen was thrilled to be with one of his best buds again! They played pool, drew in the sand, and built a fort out of the bean bag cushions all while Derek and I enjoyed a few nice beverages!
We took the train back on Thursday after lunch. The weather was still dreary, so the boys were ready to go. It was nice to get to the beach before the school year started, and we had an enjoyable time despite the bad weather.
