The rugs in this part of the world are true works of art. As we spend time in different countries around the world, we have been slowly collecting tokens from each place we go. We try to pick something meaningful, and the longer we spend somewhere, the more meaningful the item becomes. In Vietnam, we had a painting commissioned to reflect our time in HCMC. Every time I look at the painting, I am reminded of details that bring the reality back to the very surreal experience. On our travels, we tend to pick up more trinkets.
Here in the UAE, I have decided to buy a rug for each year we spend in Abu Dhabi. I bought one shortly after we got here, but I did not buy one last year. So over the weekend, the whole family went to the rug shop in our building and picked our two new, handmade rugs to add to our home. They are beautiful. The boys chose the one that is more red because it is softer and has little "S" markings. It is now the "Swanson Rug." I was sold on the second one the moment I saw it. The colors are perfectly me. I adore them both and look forward to having them in our home for years to come.
Highlights of the show included the large display of pet falcons, being able to pet an owl, and seeing the boys each holding a falcon. We bought some new camping gear, and saw a few things we may have to get in the near future... like that awesome pop-up tent trailer!
