Right before Derek flew to Bangkok, we were contacted by a couple of schools asking to set up interviews. This was very refreshing because we were so nervous about getting good jobs. I actually interviewed via Skype for two different positions while Derek was in the air, headed to Thailand.
As soon as Derek got to Bangkok, before the fair technically started, Derek interviewed with one of the schools I had interviewed with that morning via Skype. At the end of the interview, he was offered the jobs. We discussed the school, positions, country, and package at length and decided it would be hard to find something that would fit us better. Derek went to them Friday morning and signed the contract. He flew out that afternoon and was able to be home in time for Owen's birthday after all.
So the question is: Where is the Swanson Family going next?
The Swanson Family is moving to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates! We were offered incredible positions at the American Community School of Abu Dhabi. This is an incredible opportunity for us, and the school has everything that was on our "dream school" list. And Abu Dhabi looks like a wonderful place to live. It will be a great experience for us, and we are beyond excited!
I will be teaching high school math and will get IB experience, and Derek will be teaching high school technology courses. The school is nonprofit, Pre-K through 12, and has about 1100 students. We are thrilled!
We still get six more months in Vietnam, and we will be sure to make the most of it. We are so grateful for the opportunity we have had in Vietnam and for all of the wonderful people we have had the privilege of meeting. Moving on is very exciting, but we will sure miss our new friends!
