Owen was particularly happy as he got to ride his own bike on the tour. What an amazing experience for a seven-year-old to have! He noted that he felt like a grown-up while he was riding around. I am incredibly proud of how well he did—even on the busy streets!
There is so much to do and see in Paris, and with only two days, we wanted to make the most of the time we had. We start our sightseeing day by going directly to the Eiffel Tower. The boys were so excited and insisted on seeing it together before we did. Here is a series of photos capturing their discovery of the Eiffel Tower.
We spent some time walking around the Eiffel Tower before heading back underground to make our way to the next stop. The area surrounding the Tower was incredibly busy (probably due to the EuroCup happening this weekend), so we didn't spend a ton of time in the area.
Next up was Notre Dame. I was disappointed to see that the line to go inside was around the block and a three hour wait. Since we did not have time to wait that long, we took some pictures of the outside and headed on our way.
By this point we had a pretty good grasp of the train system, so we navigated our way to the Luxembourg Gardens with ease. We found a great pasta place to have lunch and then went into the stunning park. This is seriously one of the most beautiful parks I have ever seen. Perfectly trims trees and bushes, bright, beautiful flowers, statutes, and fountains. Stunning! The boys liked the big fountain in the middle because they were able to rent a small sail boat and guide it around the fountain with sticks. They had great fun racing the boat around and around the fountain.
One of the best parts of the days was meeting up with some of our friends from Abu Dhabi. Their two boys are in the same grades as Owen and Oliver and are good friends.
While hanging out with our friends, we walked through the city a bit and ended up back near Notre Dame.
This time, the line was much shorter, so, after saying goodbye to our friends, we jumped in the short queue to have a look around.
We had a lovely first family experience in Paris. We will definitely have to come back in the future to explore the countless museums the city has to offer.
